Anxious dog? Keep reading…

If your dog has anxiety then you have likely researched different methods to help support them. When we first re-homed our dog, he had extreme separation anxiety and couldn’t be left alone in the house or car. He was 2 years old and though he had come from a loving home with little trauma, this separation anxiety was wired in him. We chalked it up to him having a very intense pack drive as he is part wolf. After having to replace 2 car seat belts and miss multiple social gatherings we knew it was time to tackle this behavior head-on. Not to mention our concern that stress in dogs, just like humans, is detrimental to their health!

What is CBD oil for dogs?

I was first introduced to CBD oil for dogs by a fellow dog-walker when I was voicing my dismay at having to miss another social gathering with friends. She also had experience with owning a dog with anxiety and believed it was a good short-term fix. Cannabidiol (CBD) is one of over 90 cannabinoids produced by Cannabis and has been proposed to exert several beneficial effects, including reducing anxiety and inflammation. But unlike THC, the other major cannabinoid produced by Cannabis that is toxic to dogs, CBD does not produce psychoactive effects.

Can CBD Dog Oil Reduce Anxiety?

It is important to note that there is very little scientific research to confirm that CBD reduces anxiety in dogs and the vast majority of evidence is anecdotal1. One company called Ellevet Sciences only sell CBD dog products and are conducting their own research in partnership with Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine to study the efficacy of CBD on relieving anxiety in dogs. They recently performed a pilot study which showed their CBD dog treats decreased anxiety-related behaviors in 83% of the dogs studied2. This is promising research but not extensive enough to confirm the effect of CBD on dog’s anxiety one way or the other. There is good research, however, to show that CBD oil relieves pain in dogs3.

Conclusion

With that being said, there are thousands of reviews online about the positive effects of CBD dog oils on the market. Knowing which ones are best is difficult to discern. I researched the top-performing CBD oils for dogs on the market for 2022. You will be sure to find a top-quality CBD oil from that post.
